Yes, the Sony WF-1000XM6 supports multiple spatial audio formats including Dolby Atmos and Sony's 360 Reality Audio, delivering immersive surround sound from a pair of earbuds.
Supported Spatial Audio Formats
Dolby Atmos: Works with streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, and Amazon Prime Video. Sound effects are positioned around you—helicopters pass overhead, dialogue anchors to the screen, and action surrounds you.
360 Reality Audio: Sony's music-focused spatial format available through Amazon Music Unlimited. Individual instruments and vocals are placed in specific positions around your head for a concert-like experience.
360 Upmix: Converts standard stereo content into simulated spatial audio. Best for movies and TV; results vary with music.
Enabling Spatial Audio
- Open the Sony Sound Connect app
- Navigate to Sound settings
- Switch listening mode from Standard to Cinema
- For 360 Reality Audio, complete the ear profile setup for optimized positioning
Head Tracking (Android Only)
The WF-1000XM6 features head tracking that locks audio in a fixed position—turn your head, and sound stays anchored as if coming from speakers in front of you.
Important: Head tracking is only available on Android devices. iPhone users can enjoy spatial audio effects without head tracking.
Where Spatial Audio Works Best
Ideal for:
- Movie and TV streaming with dynamic sound design
- Gaming with spatial audio support
- 360 Reality Audio tracks on Amazon Music
- Home theater setups with Sony BRAVIA TVs
Better with standard stereo:
- Critical music listening
- Podcasts and audiobooks
- Extended listening (spatial processing uses slightly more battery)
Streaming Service Support
| Service | Spatial Format | Notes | |---------|---------------|-------| | Amazon Music | 360 Reality Audio | Primary source for Sony's format | | Netflix | Dolby Atmos | Wide Atmos library | | Disney+ | Dolby Atmos | Most original content supported | | Apple TV+ | Dolby Atmos | Strong Atmos support |
The WF-1000XM6's spatial audio capabilities transform your personal listening into a genuinely immersive experience, particularly for movie watching and gaming where positional audio enhances the content.
