Ask Agent About This Product

Yes, the Sony WF-1000XM6 supports single-earbud use with either the left or right earbud while the other charges in the case—useful for staying aware of your surroundings or extending listening time.

How Single Earbud Mode Works

1. Remove one earbud from the charging case
2. It automatically connects to your paired device
3. Audio plays through the single earbud
4. The other earbud charges in the closed case

Either earbud works independently—no restriction to left-only or right-only.

Full Feature Support

Single-earbud mode maintains all major features:

| Feature | Available | |---------|-----------| | Music playback | ✓ | | Phone calls | ✓ | | Touch controls | ✓ | | Active noise cancellation | ✓ | | Transparency mode | ✓ | | Voice assistant | ✓ | | Speak-to-Chat | ✓ |

Practical Use Cases

Office environments: Keep one ear free for colleagues while enjoying music in the other—common courtesy in open workspaces.

Extended listening: With ~8 hours per earbud, alternating sides throughout the day provides 16+ hours of audio before needing to charge the case.

Calls and commuting: One earbud allows hands-free calls while maintaining awareness of surroundings (where legally permitted).

Sleep and relaxation: Many users prefer falling asleep with just one earbud for comfort.

Seamless Switching

To swap earbuds:

1. Return the active earbud to the case
2. Remove the other earbud
3. It connects automatically—audio resumes

When you take both out together, they sync automatically for stereo sound.

Customizing Controls for Single-Earbud Use

Pro tip: In the Sony Sound Connect app, configure identical touch controls on both earbuds for single-earbud convenience. Assign essential functions—play/pause, volume, voice assistant—to both sides so they're always accessible regardless of which earbud you're wearing.

Single-earbud mode makes the WF-1000XM6 versatile for situations where full stereo isn't practical or preferred.
