Yes, the Sony WH-1000XM6 includes a 1.2-meter 3.5mm audio cable for wired listening. However, functionality differs based on power state.
Powered ON (Recommended)
With headphones turned on:
- Active noise cancellation works
- All sound processing active (EQ, DSEE)
- Touch controls functional
- Full audio quality
This is the intended wired mode—ideal for flights when Bluetooth is restricted.
Powered OFF (Emergency Mode)
When battery dies:
- Functions as passive headphones
- No ANC, no EQ, no sound enhancement
- Reduced audio quality
- Backup functionality only
USB-C Audio: Not Supported
Important: The USB-C port is for charging only. The WH-1000XM6 cannot receive digital audio via USB-C—a notable omission given that competitors (Bose QC Ultra, Bowers & Wilkins Px8) support this feature.
Best Use Cases
| Scenario | Benefit | |----------|---------| | Airplane restrictions | Full ANC functionality | | Gaming | Zero latency | | Home audio | Direct connection | | Dead battery | Emergency passive use |
Cable Compatibility
Standard 3.5mm plug works with airplane systems, gaming controllers, phones with headphone jacks, and home audio equipment without adapters.
