The Sony WH-1000XM6 includes three ways to hear your surroundings without removing the headphones.

Speak-to-Chat

Automatically pauses music when you start talking, enables ambient sound for conversation, then resumes after silence (default 15 seconds, customizable).

Setup: Enable in Sony Sound Connect app → Device Settings → Sound → Speak-to-Chat (disabled by default)

Note: May trigger from coughing or vibrations—set sensitivity to Low if needed.

Ambient Sound Mode

Lets you hear your environment while music continues at reduced volume.

How to use:

• Press NC/AMB button on left earcup to toggle
• Adjust transparency level in Sound Connect app
• Enable Auto Ambient Sound to automatically adjust based on surrounding noise

Quick Attention

Instantly mutes audio when you cover the right earcup with your palm. Release to resume normal playback.

Best for: Quick interactions—ordering coffee, hearing announcements, brief conversations.

Sound Quality

All three features use the WH-1000XM6's 12 microphones to capture external sound with relatively natural quality—less harsh and artificial than many competitors.

Ambient modes may amplify wind noise outdoors. Adjust transparency level in the app to compensate.
