360 Reality Audio on the Sony WH-1000XM6 creates immersive 3D soundscapes. Head tracking keeps the audio stage fixed as you move your head.
360 Reality Audio
This technology places individual sound sources (vocals, instruments) in a spherical space around your head, creating a 'surrounded by music' experience.
Best for:
- Native 360 Reality Audio content
- Movie and TV watching
- Gaming with spatial audio
- AR experiences
Head Tracking
The headphones monitor your head position and adjust audio to feel like a fixed virtual stage in front of you.
Important limitation: Head tracking is Android only. iPhone users don't have access to this feature.
Content Availability
Native 360 Reality Audio content is limited since Tidal dropped support:
- 360 Reality Audio Live
- Artist Connection
- nugs.net (concert recordings)
360 Reality Audio Upmix (Cinema Mode)
New for XM6: converts regular stereo to expanded spatial audio. In the Sony Sound Connect app, change listening mode from Standard to Cinema.
| Content Type | Upmix Quality | |--------------|---------------| | Movies/TV | Works well | | Music | Mixed results (can sound artificial) |
Assessment
Spatial features add value for video content and gaming. Limited music library and Android-only head tracking reduce everyday utility for music listening.
