TLDR Review: Moccamaster KBGV Select Coffee Maker
Verdict
If having a coffee maker that could potentially guest star in a Netflix movie alongside Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts excites you more than the actual coffee it brews, then this is your machine. Just remember, nostalgia and celebrity endorsements don't necessarily equate to a better cup of coffee.
- Top pro:
- Aesthetically pleasing and evokes nostalgia, making it a hit with the design-conscious and those looking to recapture a bit of the past.
- Top con:
- Does not brew coffee hot enough for some, likely because it's too busy being pretty.
Score
The Moccamaster KBGV Select receives a moderate score, reflecting its exceptional design and ability to brew high-quality coffee, which many users appreciate. However, criticisms arise regarding its high price and the lack of advanced features like programmability and durable components; several customers have reported issues with material quality despite the brand's premium positioning. Overall, those seeking a straightforward, aesthetically pleasing coffee maker may find it worth the investment if purchased at a discount, but budget-conscious consumers might consider alternatives offering better value.
Scores
Pros
- •Aesthetically pleasing and evokes nostalgia, making it a hit with the design-conscious and those looking to recapture a bit of the past.
- •Attractive white metal exterior design PLUS it's Hollywood-approved, having made a cameo in a Netflix flick starring Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts. Talk about a celebrity endorsement!
- •Brews a great tasting cup of coffee that doesn't taste like it was scraped off the bottom of a diner's shoe.
- •Easy to use, because let's face it, nobody wants to solve a Rubik's cube before their first cup of joe.
- •100% satisfaction with the product, or so they say. I mean, when was the last time you met anything at 100%, except your phone's battery charge (once in a blue moon)?
Cons
- •Does not brew coffee hot enough for some, likely because it's too busy being pretty.
- •An adjustable brewing temperature feature is desired, because not everyone likes their coffee lukewarm.
- •Plastic parts seem flimsier compared to older models - ah, the good old days when things were built to last longer than your interest in them.
- •The carafe has an awkward handle design that seems to have been designed by someone who clearly never handled hot beverages before.
- •Not considered good value for the high price. Apparently, the celebrity cameo didn't come cheap.
