TLDR Review: Melnor 8-Pattern Nozzle
Published: September 4th, 2024
Verdict
While it drips in promise and comes Wirecutter approved, the durability of this hose nozzle could potentially leave you high and dry. For a garden tool that feels as solid as it functions, you might want to keep shopping before settling on this model.
- Top pro:
- Durable and can handle being dropped to the concrete, making it seemingly invincible in the face of clumsiness.
- Top con:
- There's some side-eye at the long-term durability of the mechanism that keeps the water flowing as smoothly as your favorite jams.

Pros
- •Durable and can handle being dropped to the concrete, making it seemingly invincible in the face of clumsiness.
- •Offers individualized settings with noticeable differences, because who doesn't love a bit of personalization in their watering experience?
- •The shower function doesn't mingle with the spray function—clear boundaries, people!
- •Boasts a high-quality nozzle that dares not to leak, keeping your watering sessions tidy.
- •Comes highly recommended by Wirecutter, because if The New York Times says it's good, who are we to argue?
- •Made with metal elements, potentially outlasting your gardening enthusiasm.
- •Easy to rotate the head with a nice grip, because nobody has time for a wrestling match with their hose nozzle.
- •Good water pressure, ensuring your plants get that spa treatment they so desperately need.
- •Solid and heavy feel, giving it that premium vibe without the premium price.
Cons
- •There's some side-eye at the long-term durability of the mechanism that keeps the water flowing as smoothly as your favorite jams.
- •The on/off trigger could use a dose of spinach because it's feeling a bit flimsy and gave up after 9 months.
- •A large hole near the maximum stress point screams 'I break easily!'—a poor design choice if ever there was one.
- •Despite its 'heavy duty' marketing, the interior is more plastic fantastic than solid gold.
- •The durability drama continues with the hose sticking and leaking, turning it into a high-maintenance garden diva.
- •Water flow doesn't know when to quit, leading to accidental water fights.
- •Spray types may be too soft or too rough for your plant babies, because apparently, nozzles can also have commitment issues.
