TLDR Review: Glad Press'n Seal Wrap
Verdict
Glad Press'n Seal delivers on sealing strength and versatility, but beware: recent design changes to the cutting edge and flimsy box packaging make it frustrating to use. If you rely on easy, clean tearing and user-friendly packaging, you might want to either stock up on older batches if you can find them, or consider alternatives. Until Glad improves the cutter and packaging, scissors are practically required, and cleanup can be sticky business. For a similar but less frustrating experience, you may want to explore other brands with sturdier cutting edges and packaging.
- Top pro:
- The Glad Press'n Seal plastic wrap itself is strong, high-quality, and very effective at sealing, sticking better than regular plastic wrap.
- Top con:
- The newly designed plastic serrated cutting edge is a major headache: it often fails to cut cleanly, folds over, or detaches from the box, making it nearly unusable.
Pros
- •The Glad Press'n Seal plastic wrap itself is strong, high-quality, and very effective at sealing, sticking better than regular plastic wrap.
- •It reliably prevents leaks when wrapping items like bottles of soap or shampoo.
- •The wrap seals well on various surfaces including wood, paper, and metal.
- •It is microwave safe when vented properly, adding convenience for reheating.
- •Versatile use cases include food preservation, portioning, freezing, and even crafting.
- •When usable, the film’s strength means less tearing or puncturing during storage.
Cons
- •The newly designed plastic serrated cutting edge is a major headache: it often fails to cut cleanly, folds over, or detaches from the box, making it nearly unusable.
- •Many users find themselves resorting to scissors because the built-in cutter is just too puny and flimsy.
- •The box packaging is flimsy and frequently falls apart before the entire roll is used, adding frustration.
- •The "press and seal" adhesive tends to gum up the tear strip and causes the wrap to stick to itself, creating further hassle.
- •The wrap leaves behind a sticky residue that’s tough to clean off with just soap and water; it can attract dirt and dust, making wrapped surfaces unpleasant.
- •The wrap is not fully transparent, so you can’t see the contents without removing it, which lessens convenience.
- •Once peeled back, the wrap often loses its seal when trying to stick it back on, reducing reusability.
- •The cutting blade’s adhesive and security have worsened recently, causing it to move, loosen, or fail regularly—about two-thirds of users face this issue per batch.
- •Overall, the packaging and cutting mechanism downgrade significantly hamper the user experience compared to past versions.
