How Long Does the iPhone 17 Pro Max Battery Actually Last?
The iPhone 17 Pro Max has genuinely impressive battery life. In independent testing across 35 smartphones, it came out on top. Here's what you can realistically expect.
The Short Answer
Most users easily get through a full day, and many can stretch to day two without trying hard. It's one of the longest-lasting phones available.
Real Test Results
Web browsing over 5G: Nearly 18 hours of continuous use
Gaming: About 12 hours of uninterrupted play
Video streaming: Over 25 hours
Mixed daily use: About 13 hours (45 minutes longer than iPhone 16 Pro Max)
Battery Capacity
- eSIM-only models: 5,088 mAh
- Dual-SIM models: 4,832 mAh
The eSIM versions get roughly 5.5% more capacity since they don't need space for a SIM tray.
Daily Usage Expectations
Heavy users: End the day with 20-30% remaining after 6-8 hours of screen time
Moderate users: Comfortably last a full day with battery to spare
Light users: Can stretch to two days between charges
Why Battery Life Improved
The battery only grew about 3%, but runtime improved 15-20% thanks to:
- A19 Pro chip using 20% less power for background tasks
- Smarter display management that adjusts refresh rates dynamically
- Better thermal management reducing wasted energy
Charging Speeds
| Method | Time to 50% | |--------|-------------| | Wired (40W) | 20 minutes | | MagSafe (25W) | 30 minutes | | Qi2 wireless | ~35 minutes |
A quick top-up while getting ready is enough for another half day.
