The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 does not support the S Pen stylus—a significant departure from the Z Fold 6, which offered full stylus compatibility on its inner display.
Why Samsung Removed S Pen Support
Samsung made a deliberate engineering choice: remove the Wacom digitizer layer to achieve the dramatically thinner 4.2mm unfolded profile. This trade-off delivered:
- 24 grams lighter (215g vs 239g on Fold 6)
- Significantly thinner profile when unfolded
- Strengthened hinge mechanism with the reduced internal components
Who Will Miss the S Pen Most
If your workflow depends on stylus input—note-taking during meetings, document signing, digital sketching—this is a meaningful loss.
Alternatives Worth Considering
| Device | S Pen Support | Best For | |--------|--------------|----------| | Galaxy Z Fold 6 | ✅ Inner display | Foldable + stylus users | | Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra | ✅ Full support | Artists and heavy note-takers | | Galaxy S24 Ultra | ✅ Built-in | Traditional phone + stylus |
The Bottom Line
If you rarely used the S Pen on your Fold 6, you won't miss it on the Fold 7. But if stylus functionality is central to how you work, the Z Fold 6 remains available and represents excellent value for stylus-dependent users. Samsung has given no indication that S Pen support will return to future Fold models—this appears to be a permanent design direction.
