Flex Mode on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 transforms the half-folded phone into a hands-free workstation, with content on top and controls below.
How Flex Mode Works
When folded between 75-115 degrees:
- Top half: Displays content (video, camera preview, document)
- Bottom half: Shows controls, keyboard, or touchpad
- Hinge: Holds position without external support
Best Flex Mode Use Cases
| Activity | Top Screen | Bottom Screen | |----------|------------|---------------| | Video calls | Meeting participants | Controls, chat | | YouTube | Video playback | Comments, suggestions | | Camera | Live preview | Shutter, settings | | Notes | Document view | Writing area | | Recipes | Instructions | Timer, controls |
Supported Apps
Full Flex Mode Support:
- Samsung Camera, Gallery, Notes
- YouTube, Netflix
- Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams
- Google Duo
Force Flex Mode for More Apps:
- Settings > Advanced features > Labs
- Enable "Flex mode panel"
- Select apps to force Flex Mode
Results vary—some third-party apps adapt well, others split awkwardly.
Practical Applications
Video Calls: Set the phone on a table at perfect webcam angle. Hands-free calling without a phone stand.
Watching Content: Enjoy videos during meals without holding your phone or finding something to prop it against.
Photography: Use as a mini tripod for stable shots, timer-based group selfies, or hands-free video recording.
Productivity: View reference material on top while taking notes below, or follow video tutorials hands-free.
Hinge Quality
The Z Fold 7's improved Armor Flex hinge holds angles securely without creeping open or closed—a notable improvement over earlier Fold generations.
