The iPhone 17 Pro Max comes in four storage sizes. Here's how to choose the right one for your needs.
Storage Options and Prices
| Storage | Price | |---------|-------| | 256GB | $1,199 | | 512GB | $1,399 | | 1TB | $1,599 | | 2TB | $1,799 |
256GB: Best for Basic Users
Choose this if you:
- Stream music and video (Spotify, Netflix)
- Use iCloud for photos
- Have 30-50 apps
- Rarely record video
Check your current usage: Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
512GB: Best for Most Users
This is the recommended choice for users who:
- Take lots of photos and 4K video
- Download music and podcasts for offline use
- Have many apps and games
- Want room to grow
This is the sweet spot for most people.
1TB: Best for Content Creators
Choose this if you:
- Record ProRes video regularly
- Keep your entire photo library locally
- Install many large games
- Need significant storage headroom
2TB: Best for Professionals
The new maximum tier suits:
- Videographers shooting ProRes or Apple Log
- Professionals needing massive local storage
- Users who want to future-proof for 5+ years
Important Notes
- iPhone storage cannot be upgraded after purchase.
- When in doubt, choose the next size up. The $200 difference is worth avoiding storage frustration later.
- iCloud helps but doesn't replace local storage. Apps, system files, and cached data still require device storage.
- ProRes video uses approximately 6GB per minute. Plan accordingly if you shoot professional video.
