Pro Res Zoom sounds like marketing, but it's actually impressive technology. Here's what it really does and when it's useful.

The basics:

Your Pixel 10 Pro has a 5x optical telephoto lens. Up to 5x, you get real optical zoom with full quality. Beyond that, the camera zooms digitally while AI fills in detail.

What the AI does:

This isn't just sharpening. The AI generates new detail based on what it thinks should be there. It's trained on millions of images, so when you zoom in on a building, it knows what building textures look like and adds that detail.

When it works well:

100x zoom of a building across the city? Letters on a distant sign? Surprisingly good. The AI loves geometric shapes, clear edges, and predictable patterns.

When it struggles:

Faces at extreme zoom look off. Moving subjects get artifacts. Low light becomes a mess of AI guessing.
