Why does the S Pen need to be inserted a specific way on the Galaxy S26 Ultra?

nullIf you just got a Galaxy S26 Ultra and your S Pen isn't going back in the slot smoothly, you're probably putting it in backwards. Don't worry—it's not broken. Samsung just changed how this works.

What Changed

On older Ultra phones, you could insert the S Pen either direction. The S26 Ultra? Not anymore. There's only one correct orientation.

Samsung redesigned the phone with rounder corners, and the S Pen slot had to move to accommodate that. The new position means the slot isn't symmetrical.

The Correct Way

Button side up. That's it.

Hold the S Pen so you can see the clicker button on top, then slide it into the slot at the bottom left corner. You'll hear and feel it click into place.

If you're trying to jam it in the wrong way, stop. You won't win, and you might damage something.

Is This Annoying?

Honestly, a little—at first. If you're used to quickly docking the S Pen without looking, you'll fumble for a few days. Give it a week and it becomes automatic.

What the S Pen Still Does

Everything important:

• Pressure sensitivity for drawing and writing
• Tilt detection for natural pen strokes
• Handwriting recognition

What it doesn't do: the Bluetooth remote features from older models. Samsung removed those starting with the S25 Ultra, and they haven't brought them back.
