Yep, the CURT 18153 Basket Hitch Cargo Carrier does fold up when you're not using it. This is super handy if you're tight on space or if you just want a bit more clearance without the carrier sticking out all the time.
From what we've found, the carrier is built with tubular steel, which makes it really sturdy and durable. The manufacturer even mentions that it can handle up to 500 pounds of cargo, which is pretty impressive.
Just a heads up though—the carrier itself is about 70 pounds. This makes it strong, but it could be a bit much to handle by yourself, especially if you've got a taller vehicle like an SUV. We've read that while it feels nice and stable once it's secured, you might want some help getting it on and off to make things easier.
As for using it, folks generally seem happy with how stable it is while driving, whether you're carrying heavy stuff or not. This stability, combined with the foldable feature, makes it a popular pick for folks who need a reliable cargo carrier that doesn't take up too much space when not in use.
So, if you're trying to figure out if this carrier is right for you, just think about the weight and how sturdy it is. Its foldable design is great if you're switching between hauling stuff and keeping things compact when you don't need extra cargo space.
