You pick from 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB when you buy the phone. That's what you get for the life of the device.

For most people, 256GB works fine. Apps, photos, a decent amount of video. If you shoot lots of video or store lots of media, 512GB gives more room. The 1TB option is for power users doing serious video work.

Why Samsung dropped microSD:

Official reasons: internal UFS 4.0 storage is faster, simplifies waterproofing, more reliable. Unofficial reason: they make more money selling higher storage tiers.

Workarounds:

Cloud storage is the obvious answer. Samsung Cloud gives you 15GB free with paid options up to 1TB. Google Photos offers free photo backup or full-quality with Google One.

For video work, the S26 Ultra supports external SSDs through USB-C. For 8K APV recording, you actually need external storage because of high data rates.

Picking the right storage:

If you back up photos to the cloud and stream music, 256GB is probably fine. If you keep everything on-device or shoot video regularly, spring for 512GB. The 1TB option is overkill for most people unless you're doing serious video production.

The price jump from 256GB to 512GB is $120. From 512GB to 1TB is $240.
