TLDR Review: WEN DF680iX Generator
Verdict
The WEN Quiet 6800-Watt Dual Fuel Generator is a solid choice if you want powerful, quiet, and flexible backup power for your RV, home, or off-grid needs without breaking the bank. Its dual fuel capability, safety features like CO Watchdog, and fuel-saving Eco Mode make it a dependable and efficient workhorse. Just be prepared for the heft and consider a protection plan due to limited parts availability for repairs. If you want something lighter or with easier maintenance, you might want to explore other dual fuel inverter generators, but for robust performance and value, this WEN model delivers.
- Top pro:
- Provides powerful and reliable whole-house backup power suitable for off-grid use and RV travel.
- Top con:
- The unit is heavy and bulky, making solo portability challenging.
Pros
- •Provides powerful and reliable whole-house backup power suitable for off-grid use and RV travel.
- •Dual fuel capability (gasoline and propane) offers flexible and efficient running options, with propane tanks lasting up to two weekends in Eco Mode.
- •Very quiet operation for its output size, running at about 64 decibels at quarter load, quieter than many comparable models including Honda 2200 rental generators.
- •Efficient fuel consumption with an ultra-efficient 2.9-gallon gas tank and Eco Mode that adjusts fuel use based on load.
- •Easy to start via keyless electric start knob with a manual recoil backup and smooth operation.
- •The WEN Watchdog CO Shutdown Sensor enhances safety by automatically shutting down the generator if carbon monoxide levels get dangerous.
- •Fuel shutoff feature prevents carburetor fouling by running the engine fuel dry before shutting down, reducing maintenance needs.
- •Portable with built-in wheels and a telescoping handle, though it’s heavy (about 108 pounds) and may need two people to move comfortably.
- •Stable and clean sine wave output with very low harmonic distortion, safe for sensitive electronics like laptops, tablets, and EV charging.
- •Good value offering similar reliability and features as more expensive brands without the steep price tag.
Cons
- •The unit is heavy and bulky, making solo portability challenging.
- •Replacement parts, such as for spark plug housing voltage faults that some users reported after extensive use, can be hard to find, so a protection plan is advisable.
- •Battery removal and some maintenance tasks require patience and can be cumbersome.
- •Some users remain cautious about long-term reliability given the generator's relatively high price point.
- •While quiet for its wattage class, noise level may still be noticeable in very quiet environments or at full load.
