TLDR Review: VIZIO D-Series 24" HDTV
Verdict
The VIZIO D-Series 24" Class LED HDTV (D24f-G) offers excellent picture quality and robust built-in smart features packed into a compact, lightweight frame that’s perfect for small rooms or kitchens. However, the weak points lie mainly in its flaky SmartCast software, input switching quirks, and reliance on the remote for basic controls, which can be inconvenient for some users. If you need a straightforward, affordable 24-inch TV with good streaming capabilities and solid visuals, this is a strong contender. But if smart platform reliability and stereo sound are deal breakers, you might want to explore other 24” LED HDTVs with more stable software and better audio. If you want a similar compact TV but are wary of software issues, keep an eye out for alternatives that prioritize smoother smart functionality and built-in controls.
- Top pro:
- Excellent picture quality, especially impressive for over-the-air (OTA) content and full HD (1080p) resolution in a 24” screen size.
- Top con:
- No physical buttons on the TV itself means the remote is essential for powering on/off, and it can be easily lost with expensive replacements and no locator feature.
Pros
- •Excellent picture quality, especially impressive for over-the-air (OTA) content and full HD (1080p) resolution in a 24” screen size.
- •Easy and quick setup process, suitable even for users who aren’t tech-savvy.
- •Lightweight and compact, making it ideal for small spaces like kitchens, offices, or corner cabinets.
- •Good built-in sound quality that is clear and strong without distortion at high volumes, which is appreciated by users with hearing difficulties.
- •User-friendly home screen with a wide selection of built-in apps, including Roku compatibility and Apple AirPlay for extensive streaming options.
- •Voice-activated controls with Alexa integration allow for hands-free operation of power, volume, and channel changes.
- •Sleek thin bezel design that looks modern and fits nicely in limited spaces.
- •Remote control has dedicated buttons for frequently used functions, enhancing usability.
- •Large on-screen print is beneficial for users with vision loss.
- •Great overall value considering the feature set and price point.
Cons
- •No physical buttons on the TV itself means the remote is essential for powering on/off, and it can be easily lost with expensive replacements and no locator feature.
- •SmartCast software is reported as unreliable, with issues such as resetting frequently and deleting WiFi settings, causing frustration with built-in smart features.
- •Input switching problems cause loss of antenna signal when toggling between SmartCast, AirPlay, and antenna inputs, requiring unplugging the TV to restore.
- •Sound quality, while decent, is not true stereo and is considered inferior to some competing models in the same size category.
- •The TV is thicker (about 3 inches) than some other 24” models, so it may stick out more when wall mounted.
- •Apple AirPlay connection can be unstable depending on the streaming app used.
- •Overall reliability concerns due to the software and input switching issues, which may not justify the cost for some users.
- •Picture quality, while good for its size, doesn’t match that of larger or more expensive TVs if you’re looking for premium visuals.
