TLDR Review: Verbatim CD-Rs 100pk
Verdict
If you're looking for reliable, high-quality blank CDs to archive music or data, the Verbatim CD-R 700MB 80 Minutes 52X 100-pack is a solid, trusted choice known for consistent performance and compatibility—even with older players. Just keep in mind these discs use CMC dye, so while longevity is good, they might not match premium Azo dye discs for decades-long archival. For smoother burning and best results, pairing them with desktop burners and proper software like ImgBurn is recommended. Overall, this product shines for everyday burning needs and bulk use without breaking the bank.
- Top pro:
- Performs exactly as expected with reliable, smooth burns for both data and music.
- Top con:
- Uses CMC Magnetics dye instead of the superior Mitsubishi Azo dye, which may affect longevity slightly.
Pros
- •Performs exactly as expected with reliable, smooth burns for both data and music.
- •Consistently high-quality with very rare defective discs, much better than off-brand alternatives.
- •Suitable for archiving music and important files, ensuring long-term data safety.
- •Supports burning audio CDs up to 80 minutes, with some users successfully overburning to about 82 minutes.
- •Compatible with a wide range of CD players, including older and picky car stereos.
- •Comes in a large 100-pack spindle with frustration-free packaging, making bulk use convenient.
- •Writable lines on discs allow for labeling, although marker quality may affect legibility.
- •Works best with desktop burners using ImgBurn software at 16x speed for optimal results.
- •Offers good longevity expected to last several years or even decades with proper storage.
- •Verbatim is a trusted brand known for consistent performance and reliability.
Cons
- •Uses CMC Magnetics dye instead of the superior Mitsubishi Azo dye, which may affect longevity slightly.
- •The silver disc surface lacks an extra protective coating, so handling with some care is necessary.
- •Not all markers write clearly on the disc surface, which may affect labeling neatness.
- •Optimal burn quality depends heavily on firmware updates and burner selection rather than the disc media alone.
- •Advanced audio burning workflows require additional software knowledge (e.g., Foobar2000 combined with ImgBurn).
