TLDR Review: Televes DATBOSS LR Mix Antenna
Verdict
The Televes DATBOSS LR Mix is an excellent choice for those needing a high-performance, long-range TV antenna with strong UHF and high-VHF reception up to about 65-75 miles. Its automatic gain control and built-in 5G filtering help maintain clear and stable signals in complex reception environments, making it ideal for fringe locations and those seeking to cut cable costs with over-the-air TV. However, if your primary need is strong high-VHF reception or you face severe physical obstructions around you, you may want to explore other specialized antennas. For a reliable and advanced directional antenna that balances range, clarity, and modern interference filtering, the DATBOSS LR Mix is a compelling option.
- Top pro:
- Significantly improves signal strength, resulting in clearer reception and less pixelation.
- Top con:
- High VHF reception is basic and less effective compared to UHF performance.
Pros
- •Significantly improves signal strength, resulting in clearer reception and less pixelation.
- •Increases the number of available channels compared to older antennas, sometimes by as many as 16 or more.
- •Performs well over long distances (up to about 65 miles) and through challenging hilly or fringe terrain.
- •Provides rock-solid reliability and visibly better image quality, especially on high-UHF channels.
- •Clear and easy-to-follow instructions simplify installation despite the antenna's multiple parts.
- •Mechanical tilt adjustment and multi-director array enable fine-tuning for optimized reception beyond typical setups.
- •"Repack-ready" design maintains stable reception even after FCC spectrum changes and frequency shifts.
- •Built-in low noise preamplifier combined with automatic gain control enhances weak distant signals without overload.
- •Works well when paired with recording devices or distributing signals to multiple TVs.
- •Durable and reliable upgrade over older antennas, with a large yet lightweight form factor.
Cons
- •High VHF reception is basic and less effective compared to UHF performance.
- •Does not consistently pick up every station at the maximum advertised 75-mile range, especially with weak signals.
- •Struggles to receive UHF stations when physical obstructions like mountains or dense terrain are nearby.
- •Requires accurate aiming toward broadcast sources to achieve optimal signal quality.
- •Installation can be somewhat involved due to multiple parts, even though instructions are good.
