TLDR Review: TCL 85-Inch QM7K QLED TV (2025)
Verdict
The TCL 85QM7K is a powerhouse 85-inch QLED TV that brilliantly balances stunning 4K picture quality, gamer-friendly features, and an intuitive Google TV interface at a competitive price point. It’s a fantastic choice for anyone wanting a premium, large-screen experience without the OLED premium, especially if you have a well-controlled lighting environment or can invest in a good soundbar to complement the modest built-in audio. Just keep in mind the screen’s glare susceptibility and minor interface hiccups before you buy. If you’re hunting for something similar but prefer even better glare handling or audio out of the box, you might want to explore OLED options or TVs with more advanced anti-reflective treatments.
- Top pro:
- Stunning 85-inch 4K QLED display with rich, vibrant colors and deep blacks that deliver a truly immersive viewing experience ideal for big living rooms or dedicated home theaters.
- Top con:
- Screen glare can be a real nuisance, especially in rooms with strong kitchen or overhead lighting, due to limited anti-reflective coating, which may detract from viewing in bright conditions.
Pros
- •Stunning 85-inch 4K QLED display with rich, vibrant colors and deep blacks that deliver a truly immersive viewing experience ideal for big living rooms or dedicated home theaters.
- •Impressive peak brightness (HDR 3000 with 2000 nits in smaller sizes) and precise dimming technology enhance contrast and HDR content, making the picture pop in both bright and dark environments.
- •Smooth motion handling with a native 144Hz refresh rate and Game Accelerator up to 288Hz ensures fluid gameplay and excellent performance for fast-paced sports and gaming.
- •Google TV interface is user-friendly, fast, and integrates easily with Gmail, plus the voice remote and dedicated app buttons add convenience and simplicity to navigation.
- •Solid build quality with a sleek cabinet design that fits well in modern living spaces; the remote includes a backlit feature which is very handy in low light.
- •Handles lower-resolution content well, improving older broadcasts and discs without significant degradation.
- •Bluetooth connectivity for soundbars works smoothly with volume control, providing a good audio setup option beyond the TV’s built-in speakers.
- •Auto brightness adjustments work effectively and can be manually overridden for personalized picture preferences.
- •The TV offers good viewing angles for an LCD-based panel, slightly better than typical VA panels, thanks to its HVA technology.
Cons
- •Screen glare can be a real nuisance, especially in rooms with strong kitchen or overhead lighting, due to limited anti-reflective coating, which may detract from viewing in bright conditions.
- •Sound quality from built-in speakers is adequate for casual use but lacks the depth and richness expected for a large room; an external soundbar is highly recommended for a true cinematic audio experience.
- •Minor menu lag has been noted—while not a dealbreaker, it can slightly slow down navigation for power users.
- •Despite being great for many content types, the viewing angles still can’t fully compare to OLED technology, which might matter if you plan to watch off-center frequently.
