TLDR Review: TCL 85-Inch QM6K 4K TV (2025)
Verdict
The TCL 85-Inch QM6K QLED 4K Smart QD-Mini LED TV offers a compelling blend of large-screen immersion, vibrant picture quality, and smooth gaming performance at a price point that punches above its weight. It nails the essentials for gamers and movie lovers alike with its 144Hz refresh rate, Mini-LED tech, and Dolby Atmos sound, wrapped in a sleek, lightweight design. However, if you're a stickler for absolute picture refinement or flawless streaming app performance, you might find it a bit behind Samsung’s flagship line. For those wanting high-end features without the premium brand price, this TCL model is a smart choice — just consider pairing it with a soundbar to unlock the full audio potential.
- Top pro:
- Exceptional picture quality with vibrant colors and deep blacks thanks to Mini-LED QLED technology, delivering sharp and smooth 4K resolution ideal for movies and gaming.
- Top con:
- Picture quality, while excellent for the price, is generally considered slightly inferior to premium competitors like Samsung, with some users noting a less clean image and the need for manual adjustments.
Pros
- •Exceptional picture quality with vibrant colors and deep blacks thanks to Mini-LED QLED technology, delivering sharp and smooth 4K resolution ideal for movies and gaming.
- •Ultra-lightweight design makes mounting the massive 85” screen surprisingly easy.
- •144Hz native refresh rate combined with HDMI 2.1 and Game Accelerator up to 288Hz supports smooth, lag-free gameplay, especially with consoles like PlayStation 5.
- •Google TV interface is fast, user-friendly, and supports a wide range of streaming apps with quick setup.
- •Remote control is well-designed, highly functional, and features voice commands with backlight activation when picked up.
- •Brightness is impressive for a TV in this price range, allowing for enjoyable viewing in various lighting environments.
- •Built-in ONKYO speaker system with Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X provides better audio than typical flat-panel TVs.
- •Handles fast action content like sports, movies, and games with excellent motion clarity and "halo-free" image quality due to advanced backlighting technology.
- •Easy setup process and good compatibility with fast internet speeds improve streaming quality and overall user experience.
- •Factory picture and sound settings are decent out of the box, though they can be manually optimized for HDR and audio.
Cons
- •Picture quality, while excellent for the price, is generally considered slightly inferior to premium competitors like Samsung, with some users noting a less clean image and the need for manual adjustments.
- •Streaming apps occasionally suffer from functionality issues within the Google TV ecosystem.
- •Audio quality, despite the ONKYO speakers, can feel boxy or underwhelming; many users recommend an external soundbar for a richer soundstage.
- •The power cord is shorter than preferred, which may necessitate purchasing a longer replacement for better cable management.
- •HDMI 120-144 Hz ports can have inconsistent audio output, making optical digital out a better choice for reliability.
- •Most streaming content is delivered at 60 Hz or 24 Hz, so the full benefit of the 144Hz refresh rate may be limited to gaming and select media sources.
- •Video game display is very good but not markedly better than competing TVs in the same category, such as Samsung models.
- •Some users find factory settings require tweaking to maximize HDR brightness and color accuracy fully.
- •Matte screen finish reduces glare but may slightly soften the image compared to glossy panels.
- •Not the absolute brightest TV on the market, so bright room performance may not match top-tier flagship models.
