TLDR Review: Step N' Sort 3-Compartment Bin
Verdict
The Step N' Sort 16-Gal. 3-Compartment Stainless Steel Trash and Recycling Bin is a sturdy, well-designed option for small households or pet owners who want organized waste separation without fuss. Its durable pedals, secure liners, and pet-proof lids make it both practical and reliable over time, backed by superb customer service if anything goes wrong. However, if you need larger capacity or more robust lids with comfortable handles, you might want to explore other options. For those who value tight-space functionality and a clean look with simple sorting, this bin delivers nicely.
- Top pro:
- The pedal mechanism is durable and easy to use, avoiding common breakage issues seen in similar bins.
- Top con:
- The lids feel a bit thin and wobbly, detracting slightly from the premium feel of the stainless steel exterior.
Pros
- •The pedal mechanism is durable and easy to use, avoiding common breakage issues seen in similar bins.
- •Three separate containers with individual lids make sorting trash, recycling, and compost straightforward and efficient.
- •The container sizes are well-suited for small households (around two to three people) and manage pet waste (like from a cat) effectively.
- •Supports 13-gallon biodegradable liners that stay secured and don’t slip inside the bin, which is a nice touch for cleanliness.
- •Black lids allow for easy labeling with markers, aided by included colored stickers and a guide that simplifies sorting.
- •The overall design feels thoughtful and highly functional, improving the organization and appearance of waste areas.
- •Sturdy, reliable construction means the unit stays functional even when moved and lasts well over time.
- •Customer service is exceptional, promptly providing replacement parts at minimal cost and even handling goodwill gestures generously.
- •Fits perfectly in tight spaces, an important consideration for kitchens with limited room.
- •The product effectively prevents pets like cats from opening the bin, adding a layer of household safety.
Cons
- •The lids feel a bit thin and wobbly, detracting slightly from the premium feel of the stainless steel exterior.
- •Inner containers slide smoothly but have awkward, uncomfortable handles, making them less pleasant to carry when full.
- •Three compartments limit capacity, which requires more frequent emptying, possibly inconvenient for larger households or heavy waste days.
- •Containers are relatively small, making it tricky to fit larger or bulky trash items or use any compartment for both trash and recycling at once.
- •Inserting and securing bags can be finicky and may need some trial to prevent the bag from poking through the lid edges.
- •The product doesn’t offer many bells and whistles beyond solid basic waste separation and pet safety features.
