TLDR Review: Stanley SL18117 Vacuum
Verdict
The Stanley 8 Gallon Wet Dry Vacuum SL18117 is a solid, multifunctional choice for homeowners and light to medium-duty cleanup tasks, with its versatile use and safer stainless steel tank standing out. However, if your needs include heavy sawdust or industrial-level suction power, this vac might not meet your expectations without some compromises, like upgrading the power cord or adding labels to ports. For more demanding environments, you might want to explore shop vacs with stronger suction or professional-grade features to avoid frustration. Overall, this vacuum offers good value for everyday cleaning and moderate workshop jobs.
- Top pro:
- Powerful 4 peak HP motor provides strong cleaning performance for a variety of tasks including drywall dust, household dust, sawdust, automotive glass debris, gritty sand, and concrete remnants.
- Top con:
- Some users reported the suction power is not as strong as expected, especially with fine particles like sawdust, making it less ideal for heavy-duty cleanup jobs.
Pros
- •Powerful 4 peak HP motor provides strong cleaning performance for a variety of tasks including drywall dust, household dust, sawdust, automotive glass debris, gritty sand, and concrete remnants.
- •Stainless steel tank with an all-metal can design reduces static electric shocks, making it safer and more comfortable to use.
- •Versatile 3-in-1 functionality allows use as a wet vacuum, dry vacuum, and blower, adding to its utility around the home, garage, jobsite, or basement.
- •Ideal size for most common cleaning needs with a 1 7/8 inch vacuum size that balances capacity and portability.
- •Wet vacuum function works well overall, efficiently handling wet messes when managed carefully.
- •Generally considered to perform better than many similar shop vacs in its category and price range.
Cons
- •Some users reported the suction power is not as strong as expected, especially with fine particles like sawdust, making it less ideal for heavy-duty cleanup jobs.
- •The inlet and outlet ports are not clearly marked, which can lead to confusion and accidental use of the blower function when vacuuming; labeling or close attention is needed.
- •The drain port on the wet vacuum function may leak during cleanup and sometimes requires extra sealing to prevent drips.
- •The original power cord is quite short and can be inconvenient; many recommend upgrading to a longer, thicker cord for better reach and durability.
- •Performance can fall short for heavy or professional-grade tasks that require consistent strong suction power.
