TLDR Review: Stanley 199 Utility Knife
Verdict
The Stanley 10-209 5-1/2-Inch 199 Fixed Blade Utility Knife is a rugged, reliable tool favored by professionals who need a fixed blade that performs well on drywall, vinyl, and other flooring materials. Its vintage charm and durable construction make it a favorite for long-term use, but be aware that the aluminum casing around the blade screw can wear out over time, especially when using power tools for reassembly. If you're looking for a no-nonsense, heavy-duty utility knife and can manage the minor maintenance, this model fits the bill. For those concerned about the screw wear issue, it might be worth considering alternative Stanley models or keeping a spare on hand to avoid downtime.
