TLDR Review: Sphero BB-8 Droid
Verdict
The Sphero Battle-Worn BB-8 is a solid choice if you're a Star Wars fan or hunting for an engaging toy that'll actually hold your kids' attention, plus reviewers loved its durability and the fact that it's even fun for your furry friends. Just go in knowing that mastering the Force Band controls takes some practice, the lack of built-in sound effects is disappointing, and—this is important—double-check your listing to make sure you're getting the full Collector's Edition package with all the accessories included, because some sellers are only offering the droid itself at the same price point.
- Top pro:
- Highly engaging toy that keeps kids entertained for extended periods
- Top con:
- Head detaches too easily from minor impacts or bumps during play
Pros
- •Highly engaging toy that keeps kids entertained for extended periods
- •Durable enough to handle frequent, active play without falling apart
- •Great gift for Star Wars fans and kids who love the franchise
- •Generates positive social interaction with other children
- •Surprisingly fun for interactive play with pets, including dogs
Cons
- •Head detaches too easily from minor impacts or bumps during play
- •Controlling the droid via the Force Band has a steep learning curve and requires patience to master
- •App control feels clunky and could definitely use some refinement
- •Sounds don't come from the droid itself, which really misses an opportunity for better immersion
- •Some packages only include the droid alone—missing the battle-worn packaging, collectible tin, and Force Band, so verify what's actually in your order before purchasing
