TLDR Review: Spectra Pro Select Downspout Extension Pack
Verdict
If you want a budget-friendly way to extend your downspouts and aren’t expecting heavy weather challenges, the Spectra Pro Select 55 in. White Plastic Downspout Extension offers decent value and basic performance. However, be prepared for installation headaches, weak connections, and potential long-term durability issues. If you want a more secure fit and reliable design, you may want to explore traditional single-size extensions that users report lasting much longer without modifications or frustrating assembly.
- Top pro:
- The extension is easy to install and fits reasonably well on both the downspout and drainage pipe.
- Top con:
- The connection mechanism is weak and unreliable; plastic tabs and adapter ends frequently come apart under wind or heavy water flow.
Pros
- •The extension is easy to install and fits reasonably well on both the downspout and drainage pipe.
- •It features an opening for clean-out, helping prevent blockages and issues like animals getting stuck inside.
- •Durable construction with generally reliable plastic materials.
- •Provides good value for the price given its functionality as a downspout extension.
- •Effectively lengthens the downspout, improving water drainage away from the foundation.
- •The design is practical and fairly user-friendly once installed correctly.
Cons
- •The connection mechanism is weak and unreliable; plastic tabs and adapter ends frequently come apart under wind or heavy water flow.
- •The product’s claim of fitting all downspouts is misleading; it often fails to provide a snug, secure attachment.
- •Assembly is frustrating due to a poor adapter design that requires modifications or super glue to stay attached.
- •No screws are included, and even with added screws, the fit remains loose because of large gaps.
- •Requires unscrewing for removal and reinstallation, making routine maintenance inconvenient.
- •The plastic feels stiff and brittle, with some reports of cracking after several years of use.
- •Extensions can be installed incorrectly due to vague instructions, potentially causing improper water drainage.
- •In heavy rain, water can splash out of the opening or cause flooding near the house if not properly secured.
