TLDR Review: Sony WF-C700N Earbuds
Verdict
The Sony WF-C700N earbuds deliver impressive noise cancellation and sound quality that punches well above their price point, wrapped in a comfortable, lightweight design with reliable battery life and water resistance. They’re ideal for budget-conscious listeners who want effective ANC and strong audio performance without all the bells and whistles of premium models. However, if you want advanced features like automatic ear detection, adaptive noise canceling, or a sleeker size, consider newer Sony models or other brands — but if comfort, durability, and solid sound are your priorities, these remain a very smart choice.
- Top pro:
- Sound quality is excellent with punchy bass and clear treble, especially after tuning with the companion app’s EQ and DSEE sound enhancement.
- Top con:
- Noise cancellation struggles with high-pitched or loud noises like close speech, sirens, or barking dogs, providing less effective blocking on these fronts.
Pros
- •Sound quality is excellent with punchy bass and clear treble, especially after tuning with the companion app’s EQ and DSEE sound enhancement.
- •Noise cancellation is impressive for the price, effectively reducing low-end background noise like fans, traffic, and TV sounds, with ANC performance comparable to higher-end Sony models like the XM4.
- •Very comfortable and lightweight design that suits long-term wear and side sleeping better than many competitors.
- •Push-button controls are tactile and preferred by some users, offering customizable functions including volume control on either earbud.
- •Battery life is solid, providing around 7.5 to 8 hours of playback with ANC, plus fast charging that gives several hours of use after just 10 minutes of charging.
- •IPX4 water resistance makes them suitable for gym sessions and light rain exposure.
- •ANC transparency mode works well to let in ambient sound without removing the earbuds.
- •Reliable and stable Bluetooth connection on both Android and iOS devices.
- •Durable build quality with users reporting flawless operation even after more than two years of daily use.
- •The earbuds provide excellent insulation and a balanced, warm sound that is pleasing for general use and audiobooks.
Cons
- •Noise cancellation struggles with high-pitched or loud noises like close speech, sirens, or barking dogs, providing less effective blocking on these fronts.
- •These earbuds do not have automatic pause when removing them from ears; pausing must be done manually via buttons.
- •Some users experience minor discomfort in the left ear after extended wear due to ear shape differences, though moldable tips can mitigate this.
- •Lacks advanced features found in pricier models such as adaptive ANC, customizable sound profiles beyond basic EQ, and touch controls.
- •Slightly bulkier compared to newer Sony earbuds, which might deter users looking for the smallest possible design.
- •The soundstage is narrower than more expensive models, which may matter to audiophiles seeking expansive audio.
- •The product has been discontinued by Sony, making it less available and potentially harder to find new.
- •Button controls, while preferred by some, may feel outdated or less intuitive compared to modern touch controls.
- •Transparency mode, while effective, is somewhat basic and lacks finer ambient sound control seen on higher-end earbuds.
