TLDR Review: Shark HC451 Air Purifier
Verdict
The Shark HC451 3-in-1 Clean Sense Air Purifier, Heater & Fan is a versatile, space-saving solution ideal for small to medium rooms where you want cleaner air plus seasonal temperature control. Its strong purification performance, quiet operation at moderate settings, and real-time air quality feedback make it a solid choice for bedrooms or offices. However, if you need ultra-quiet heating or odor elimination beyond moderate levels, you might find some limitations, especially with the initial filter smell and noise at higher settings. The unit’s size and remote range are worth considering if space and convenience are priorities. Overall, it offers great value for combined air purification and heating/cooling, making it a worthwhile investment for improving indoor comfort and air quality.
- Top pro:

- Top con:
- Initial filter emits a strong chemical smell, although this fades quickly; aftermarket filters do not have this issue.

Cons
- •Initial filter emits a strong chemical smell, although this fades quickly; aftermarket filters do not have this issue.
- •The unit is larger and taller than expected, which may reduce discretion in small spaces.
- •Heating mode is louder than fan or purifier modes, comparable to typical infrared heaters, and fan noise increases at higher speeds.
- •Remote control only works effectively when very close, which limits convenience for some users.
- •Air purification is less effective at low fan speeds, requiring medium to high settings (level 4+) to notice clear improvements.
- •Some users report the heater function develops an unpleasant smell after extended use.
- •Replacement filters can be pricey and may not be as effective against strong odors compared to high-end models.
- •While it reduces odors, it may not completely eliminate all smells as strongly advertised.
