TLDR Review: Seagate IronWolf Pro 24TB NAS Hard Drive ST24000NT002
Verdict
The Seagate IronWolf Pro 24TB Enterprise NAS drive is a powerhouse designed for demanding multi-bay NAS and RAID setups, delivering quiet, reliable, and consistent 24/7 performance with excellent longevity. If you're building or upgrading an enterprise or prosumer NAS that needs massive, stable storage with solid warranty and data recovery support, this is one of the best choices on the market. However, if you prioritize extremely fast small-file access or need absolute silence, complementing with SSDs might be worth considering. Just double-check your enclosure compatibility to avoid any fitting issues.
- Top pro:
- Runs exceptionally quietly, even after extended use, making it unobtrusive in multi-drive NAS environments.
- Top con:
- The form factor and screw hole placement may not be compatible with all cases or enclosures, so it’s important to verify fit before purchase.
Pros
- •Runs exceptionally quietly, even after extended use, making it unobtrusive in multi-drive NAS environments.
- •Highly reliable with no glitches, errors, or failures reported over long-term use, even under 24/7 operation.
- •Strong and solid build quality with stable performance in RAID and enterprise NAS setups.
- •Fits easily into standard 3.5-inch drive bays and supports simple installation with common SATA and power connections.
- •Excellent compatibility with multi-channel NVRs and UNRAID servers, recognized without issues and supporting up to 24 IP camera streams flawlessly.
- •Consistently fast and steady write/read speeds with good performance during data rebuilds and heavy media transfers.
- •Superior durability with features like rotational vibration sensors and AgileArray™ firmware, enhancing longevity and reliability compared to competitors like WD Red Plus drives.
- •Comes with a 5-year limited warranty and complimentary 3-year Rescue Data Recovery Services for added peace of mind.
- •Runs cool during operation, helping maintain drive health in dense NAS configurations with better airflow due to slightly shorter height.
- •Offers excellent value for a 24TB enterprise-grade NAS drive, engineered specifically for multi-user, multi-bay storage environments.
Cons
- •The form factor and screw hole placement may not be compatible with all cases or enclosures, so it’s important to verify fit before purchase.
- •Can be slightly noisier than SSDs (but within normal ranges for 7200 RPM hard drives).
- •Performance with small file transfers is noticeably slower compared to SATA SSDs, especially when the SSD cache is filled during sustained heavy transfer tasks.
- •Speed advantage is mostly with large file transfers (10GB+); intensive caching tasks can see decreased speeds after cache exhaustion.
