TLDR Review: SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 1TB
Verdict
While the SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD looks great on paper with excellent speed and portability, its notorious reliability problems and connectivity issues make it a risky choice—especially if you need a stable, professional-grade drive. Many users encounter sudden failures and frustrating support, making it unsuitable for critical work or heavy video editing. If reliability and peace of mind are your priorities, consider alternatives like the Samsung T7, which users report runs cooler and offers comparable speeds without the drama. For casual use, this SanDisk model may still work fine, but be prepared for possible technical headaches.

- Offers a generous 1TB storage capacity with a compact and portable design ideal for on-the-go use.
- Top con:
- Recurring and serious reliability issues reported, including the drive suddenly becoming unrecognized by computers, often without warning and across multiple devices.

- •Multiple users have experienced complete drive failure after limited use, leading to data loss fears and significant inconvenience.
- •Known compatibility problems with older MacBook Pro models and some versions of macOS, causing detection failures and requiring technical troubleshooting.
- •Customer support has been described as unhelpful and slow to respond, sometimes focusing on upselling rather than resolving issues or clarifying compatibility.
- •Several reports suggest poor build quality and subpar internal components, possibly contributing to failure rates and unstable performance.
- •The drive can run quite warm during heavy use, which may affect longevity and user comfort during extended sessions.
- •Frequent dismounts and freezing issues have been documented during video editing sessions, even when properly formatted and used with original cables.
- •Not recommended for professional users or critical file storage due to unpredictable failures and data loss risks.
- •Ongoing lawsuits and widespread warnings about this model hint at possible design or manufacturing flaws that have not been adequately addressed.
