TLDR Review: Samsung T9 Portable SSD 1TB
Verdict
The SAMSUNG T9 Portable SSD 1TB is a powerhouse for anyone needing fast, reliable external storage in a sleek, rugged package—especially gamers, content creators, and Tesla owners who want to expand storage without sacrificing speed. If you mainly use macOS and need the absolute fastest speeds, be aware you’ll get roughly half the maximum performance due to system limitations. The combination of robust build quality, excellent transfer rates, Tesla compatibility, and a generous warranty makes this a solid professional-grade choice. For users wanting a similar external SSD but with a smoother experience on Mac or slightly better random file performance, checking alternatives with broader USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 or Thunderbolt support could be worthwhile.
- Top pro:
- Impressively compact, lightweight, and portable design, making it easy to carry and store
- Top con:
- macOS does not support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 speeds, limiting the drive to about 950 MB/s on Macs, which may disappoint those seeking maximum speed on Apple systems

Cons
- •macOS does not support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 speeds, limiting the drive to about 950 MB/s on Macs, which may disappoint those seeking maximum speed on Apple systems
- •Average random and small file performance compared to some competitors, which might affect mixed workload scenarios
- •Samsung Magician app and locking software can be cumbersome and not very user-friendly for some users
- •Original USB-C cable occasionally reported to have poor connection or “wiggling” issues, sometimes requiring replacement
- •Requires reformatting for compatibility with Android phones, adding a setup step for mobile users
- •Marketed capacity may differ from usable storage (e.g., showing 3.56TB or less on some models larger than 1TB), but this is typical for SSDs
