TLDR Review: Samsung QN990F 85-Inch Neo QLED 8K TV (2025)
Verdict
The Samsung 85-Inch Neo QLED QN990F is a stunning high-end television offering some of the best picture quality available today, especially if you’re looking to up your 4K content with premium processing and an immersive screen. However, prospective buyers should weigh the steep price against setup complexity, recurring reliability problems, and the scarcity of true 8K content. If you prioritize hassle-free installation and rock-solid reliability, consider professional installation or exploring alternative premium 85" TVs. Otherwise, if you want show-stopping visuals and don’t mind some setup headaches, this TV delivers a compelling experience.
- Top pro:
- Unbelievable picture quality that truly dazzles, especially with 4K and 1080p thanks to excellent 8K AI upscaling.
- Top con:
- Recurring issues with the TV randomly shutting off or failing to turn on have frustrated many users.
Pros
- •Unbelievable picture quality that truly dazzles, especially with 4K and 1080p thanks to excellent 8K AI upscaling.
- •Massive 85-inch screen size creates an immersive, cinematic experience that dominates the room.
- •Elegant, sleek design that fits well in modern living spaces.
- •Built-in Alexa and smart features are intuitive, responsive, and add convenience.
- •Clear and powerful sound quality that generally eliminates the need for external speakers.
- •The Wireless One Connect box setup helps reduce clutter from cables when done correctly.
Cons
- •Recurring issues with the TV randomly shutting off or failing to turn on have frustrated many users.
- •Customer support and replacement processes are reportedly difficult and slow, compounding user dissatisfaction.
- •Setup is complicated and delicate; the fragile TV should not be tilted or laid face down, requiring careful handling or professional installation.
- •The “one cord” Wireless One Connect system can cause delays when switching channels or sources and demands a clear, uninterrupted connection path to the TV.
- •Samsung’s installation instructions are poor and overly complex, making a smooth setup challenging for the average user.
- •The remote control is small, poorly labeled, not illuminated, and awkward to use, despite featuring a solar panel.
- •True 8K content is virtually nonexistent, so much of the visual advantage relies on upscaling rather than native 8K material.
- •The retail store picture settings differ significantly from typical home setups, so the home viewing experience may feel less spectacular.
