TLDR Review: Samsung HW-Q990F Soundbar
Verdict
The SAMSUNG Soundbar HW-Q990F/ZF is a powerhouse for immersive home audio, delivering robust Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound in a sleek package with wireless convenience and smart customization features. However, its size, occasional wireless glitches, and the need to add rear speakers for full surround sound make it best suited for those who want a premium system and don’t mind investing a bit extra. If you’re looking for a more straightforward setup without additional speakers or concerns about wireless hiccups, it’s worth comparing other high-end soundbars, but if you want flexibility and a genuinely cinematic experience, this remains one of the best in the Samsung lineup.
- Top pro:
- Delivers immersive 11.1.4 channel audio with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, creating a cinematic and gaming-friendly sound experience.
- Top con:
- Very large and heavy unit, necessitating strong, secure wall mounts if you prefer wall installation.
Pros
- •Delivers immersive 11.1.4 channel audio with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, creating a cinematic and gaming-friendly sound experience.
- •Powerful, deep, and clean bass thanks to the included wireless subwoofer, making music and movie soundtracks rich and full-bodied.
- •Excellent spatial sound with clear side channels and height effects, enhancing the surround sound atmosphere without distortion even at high volume.
- •Wireless connectivity simplifies setup and allows convenient control via an intuitive mobile app, including language options and sound customization.
- •Supports Q-Symphony for seamless audio synchronization with compatible Samsung TVs (2022 models and newer), improving overall sound coherence.
- •Sturdy, premium build quality with a sleek design that fits well into modern home entertainment setups.
- •Rear speakers add subtle but effective surround sound, customizable through the app for a more tailored experience.
- •Ease of setup and immediate functionality out of the box save time and hassle.
Cons
- •Very large and heavy unit, necessitating strong, secure wall mounts if you prefer wall installation.
- •To achieve a true surround sound experience, additional rear speakers are required; without them, it feels less like a full 11.1.4 system.
- •Wireless connectivity can be unstable or prone to interruption; using HDMI connection tends to provide more reliable performance.
- •ARC connectivity issues may arise with older Samsung TV models, requiring troubleshooting or support to resolve.
- •Price point is high, and the overall cost-to-performance ratio is impacted by the need to buy extra components for optimum use.
- •While rear speakers provide surround effects, they may be too subtle for users expecting a more pronounced surround sound environment.
