TLDR Review: Ryobi RY40890VNM Snow Blower
Verdict
The Ryobi RY40890VNM is a lightweight, conveniently cordless snow blower that can handle light, shallow snow with ease, but it falls short in wet, deep, or heavy snow conditions due to power and battery limitations. If you live in an area with frequent heavy snow or need to clear larger areas regularly, you might want to consider a more robust two-stage snow blower instead, as this model is best suited for light-duty snow clearing and smaller jobs.
- Top pro:
- Lightweight and easy to maneuver, making it convenient for quick snow clearing jobs.
- Top con:
- Struggles significantly with wet snow, often clogging and bogging down during use.
Pros
- •Lightweight and easy to maneuver, making it convenient for quick snow clearing jobs.
- •Includes a 6.0 Ah battery and charger, delivering cordless convenience without extra purchase hassle.
- •Features a 40V HP brushless motor, which is generally efficient for light, single-stage snow blowing.
- •Works adequately for light snow and shallow snow depths up to around 3 inches.
Cons
- •Struggles significantly with wet snow, often clogging and bogging down during use.
- •Battery life diminishes quickly, especially in wet or moderate snow conditions, limiting continuous use.
- •Not powerful enough to clear snow deeper than 6 inches effectively, nor ideal for large sidewalks or driveways.
- •Motor tends to overheat quickly, with about a 10-minute continuous use limit before needing to cool down.
- •Overall performance underwhelms for heavier snow, making it unsuitable for regions with regular heavy snowfall like Minnesota or Wisconsin.
- •Users have found it disappointing compared to expectations from the Ryobi brand.
- •May require upgrading to a more powerful two-stage snow blower for serious snow removal tasks.
