TLDR Review: Rubbermaid 7x7 Shed
Verdict
This Rubbermaid Large Resin Outdoor Storage Shed is a solid, visually appealing, and weather-resistant storage solution with ample space for all your outdoor gear, garden tools, and equipment. However, be prepared for a time-consuming and somewhat fiddly assembly process that requires two people, patience, and a very level foundation. If you want hassle-free setup or internal organizational features, you might consider looking at other brands or sheds with built-in storage options. Still, if you can manage the assembly challenges, this shed offers durable protection and a great alternative to metal sheds that rust or dent easily. We recommend ensuring you have a proper base ready before ordering and possibly investing in sealing materials to stop bugs and moisture before they become an issue. If ease of assembly or built-in organizational features are a priority, you might want to explore other options with simpler setup or additional internal hooks, though for durability and aesthetics, this Rubbermaid resin shed remains a top contender.
- Top pro:
- The shed is sturdy, spacious, and provides excellent weather resistance, protecting belongings from rain and moisture effectively.
- Top con:
- Assembly can be quite challenging, requiring at least two people and a significant time investment (about half a day). Some parts, especially roof panels, are difficult to fit and align properly.
Pros
- •The shed is sturdy, spacious, and provides excellent weather resistance, protecting belongings from rain and moisture effectively.
- •Made from UV-resistant resin plastic, it resists cracking and fading, maintaining its brown color longer than typical metal sheds that rust or dent.
- •The build includes a substantial metal framework for extra strength, with a sturdy floor that supports heavy items like lawn mowers and bikes.
- •Offers generous interior space (about 7 x 7 feet, slightly over 10.5 feet wide internally), perfect for organizing garden tools, outdoor cushions, pool supplies, and stackable bins.
- •Ventilation is thoughtfully included to reduce moisture build-up and maintain airflow in the shed.
- •Assembly instructions are primarily pictographic and fairly clear, especially when two people work together; recommended tools include a ladder and power screwdriver.
- •The design is visually attractive compared to many metal sheds, providing a more polished appearance in backyards.
- •Lightweight material makes it easier to handle during assembly and positioning compared to heavier metal counterparts.
- •Once assembled, the shed is solid and durable, offering long-lasting storage solutions outdoors.
Cons
- •Assembly can be quite challenging, requiring at least two people and a significant time investment (about half a day). Some parts, especially roof panels, are difficult to fit and align properly.
- •Door alignment tends to be tricky and may need repeated adjustments even on a perfectly level foundation to ensure it closes properly.
- •Customer support for replacement parts is slow, and obtaining parts that fit correctly can be frustrating, often delaying project completion.
- •The vents, while useful for airflow, can become entry points for wasps and insects; additional sealing or screening is often necessary to prevent infestations.
- •Gaps near door hinges may allow water and bugs inside unless users apply extra weatherproofing, such as foam or caulking.
- •The product requires a very flat, level foundation—placing it directly on bare ground is a bad idea; a wooden platform or concrete slab is recommended.
- •Some assembly screws use pins instead of screws, which may require future modification for improved stability.
- •The resin material demands careful screw tightening to avoid stripping, meaning assembly involves some delicate handling rather than just brute force.
- •No built-in hooks or internal organizational features are included, so you'll need to add your own storage solutions inside.
- •Overall product quality has reportedly declined compared to past Rubbermaid models, making other brands or older models potentially easier and faster to assemble.
