TLDR Review: Roomba Combo 2 Essential
Verdict
The iRobot Roomba Combo 2 Essential with AutoEmpty Dock is a solid choice for those looking for a robot vacuum and mop combo that handles everyday dirt and debris with minimal effort. However, if you need smarter navigation, reliable mopping, better battery life, or room-specific cleaning, this model falls short. It’s best suited for users who want general maintenance rather than deep clean or precise control. For those wanting more advanced features, especially mapping and automatic dock emptying, considering higher-end models from iRobot’s J or S series might be worth the upgrade.
- Top pro:
- Effectively handles basic cleaning tasks independently without much effort.
- Top con:
- Lacks mapping capability and room-specific cleaning, limiting targeted cleaning options.
Pros
- •Effectively handles basic cleaning tasks independently without much effort.
- •Navigates around obstacles like shoes and climbs onto carpets without issue.
- •Self-emptying dock works, though it requires manual app activation.
- •Maintains general cleanliness and covers the cleaning area efficiently.
- •Shows improvement over some earlier models in terms of vacuum and mop combination.
- •Includes both vacuum and mop functions in a single device.
Cons
- •Lacks mapping capability and room-specific cleaning, limiting targeted cleaning options.
- •Frequently gets stuck on cords and requires manual intervention to get going again.
- •Mop function is impractical—water stops dispensing early and it struggles with rugs and carpets.
- •Battery life is poor, barely managing about 60m² before needing a recharge.
- •App notifications about problems arrive too late to be useful.
- •Self-emptying dock does not automatically activate; it must be started manually via the app.
- •Cannot be directed to clean specific areas, reducing overall efficiency.
- •Requires frequent supervision due to malfunctions and incomplete cleaning cycles.
- •Often smears pet messes instead of avoiding them, which can make cleaning worse.
- •Not suitable for deep cleaning needs; best for basic maintenance.
