TLDR Review: Predator 1-4 Box Set 4K
Verdict
This *PREDATOR 1-4 QF UHD+DHD* set is a solid pick for fans wanting all of the iconic Predator films in one 4K package, especially for those who appreciate the nostalgia and want improved picture and sound over older versions. While the fourth film’s weaker story and CGI might frustrate some, the original trilogy’s strengths carry the collection well. If you’re a die-hard Predator fan or just getting into the franchise, this offers great value and a complete viewing experience. However, if pristine video/audio quality or a deluxe physical presentation is a priority, you might want to wait or consider other collector’s editions. Overall, this set complements the newer *Prey* spin-off nicely and rounds out the Predator saga for binge-watching or serious collecting.
- Top pro:
- The set includes all four main Predator films before the 2022 prequel, arranged roughly chronologically for easy franchise overview.
- Top con:
- The fourth Predator film suffers from excessive CGI, uneven tone, misplaced comedy, and less likable human characters, making it the weakest of the set.
Pros
- •The set includes all four main Predator films before the 2022 prequel, arranged roughly chronologically for easy franchise overview.
- •Excellent picture quality on 4K UHD discs with sharper details and more vivid colors compared to previous releases.
- •The original 1987 Predator film remains a classic sci-fi action horror and a standout in the collection.
- •Predator 2 offers a strong urban setting and solid performances, especially from Danny Glover, making it an underrated sequel.
- •Predators (the third film) introduces a fresh survival-hunting theme and multiple Predator breeds, adding variety to the franchise.
- •The fourth film attempts a modern military sci-fi approach and ties back to previous entries through character and storyline callbacks.
- •Dolby Atmos audio track is available on the original Predator, enhancing the sound experience.
- •The set provides great value for fans who want a comprehensive collection of the core Predator movies in 4K.
- •Strong suspense and intense action sequences across the series keep viewers engaged.
- •The 4K upgrade offers improved audio and video quality for a more immersive viewing experience.
Cons
- •The fourth Predator film suffers from excessive CGI, uneven tone, misplaced comedy, and less likable human characters, making it the weakest of the set.
- •Audio quality outside of the original film’s Dolby Atmos track is solid but not exceptional or demo-worthy.
- •Video quality, while improved, doesn’t reach the very top tier of 4K releases, so it may not satisfy ultra-demanding home theater enthusiasts.
- •The physical case is a clear, thicker design similar to a DVD case, not the black 4K case shown in some images, which may disappoint collectors expecting a premium package.
- •The mix of tones and styles across the films can feel uneven, particularly when moving from classic to modern installments.
