TLDR Review: PlayStation 4 Pro 1TB White
Verdict
The Sony PlayStation 4 Pro 1TB White is a stylish, powerful, and quiet console well-suited for gamers who want stellar performance on a wide library of titles and streaming content with a splash of unique design. However, if you’re looking to enjoy 4K Blu-Ray movies or need region-free Blu-Ray playback, this model falls short in that department. Also, be prepared to possibly swap out the power cord for your region and consider upgrading the controller if drift becomes an issue. Overall, for gaming performance and visual appeal, this remains a solid choice in the PS4 Pro lineup. If you want a similar console with better controller quality or included North American power accessories, explore other versions of the PS4 Pro or the brand-new PlayStation 5, depending on your budget and needs.
- Top pro:
- The white design is sleek, visually appealing, and stands out from the typical black consoles.
- Top con:
- The power cable included may not be suitable for North American outlets, requiring purchase of a 110V power cord separately.
Pros
- •The white design is sleek, visually appealing, and stands out from the typical black consoles.
- •Runs games smoothly, handling popular titles like Fortnite at over 60fps on high settings without hiccups.
- •Extremely quiet operation with almost inaudible fan noise, making it ideal for long gaming sessions.
- •Efficient cooling system keeps the console cool to the touch, preventing overheating during extended use.
- •Excellent performance overall for current gaming needs and streaming content in up to 4K resolution (note: 4K applies to gaming/streaming, not Blu-Ray playback).
- •Compatible with a wide range of games, including American titles and streaming apps like Amazon and Netflix, with no performance issues reported.
- •Durable and reliable console that can provide years of daily entertainment.
Cons
- •The power cable included may not be suitable for North American outlets, requiring purchase of a 110V power cord separately.
- •The console cannot play 4K Blu-Ray discs despite its "4K" gaming capability, as it lacks a 4K Blu-Ray drive.
- •Blu-Ray discs must be region B (Europe) to play; the console cannot play American DVDs due to region lock on video media.
- •Setup can be time-consuming, often taking over 2 hours due to necessary software updates and installations.
- •Some units come with off-brand controllers that feel cheap and suffer from extreme drift, negatively affecting gameplay experience.
- •The console can get very hot during long gaming sessions, so additional cooling like a fan or stand is sometimes needed to avoid overheating.
