TLDR Review: Ninja DCT601 Air Fryer & Toaster Oven
Verdict
The Ninja Air Fryer & Toaster Oven Double Stack XL is a versatile, space-saving powerhouse for anyone who wants to multitask meal prep with two independent ovens that finish cooking together perfectly. Its innovative DualZone technology and broad cooking options can easily replace several kitchen appliances with a sleek design and solid build. However, if you're after traditional baking with more spacious compartments or crave ultra-crispy results on marinated foods, the limited size of the top oven and some quirks like simultaneous oven control might give you pause. For those focused on maximizing versatility and cooking efficiency in a single countertop unit, this is a worthy upgrade. _If you need more oven space or completely separate operation per oven, you may want to consider other models with larger single chambers instead._
- Top pro:
- Innovative double stack design with dual independent ovens allows cooking two different meals at separate temperatures and finishing them simultaneously using Smart Finish with DualZone Technology.
- Top con:
- Top oven compartment is quite narrow, limited mostly to thin items like bread slices or thin pizza – restricts larger or bulkier foods.
Pros
- •Innovative double stack design with dual independent ovens allows cooking two different meals at separate temperatures and finishing them simultaneously using Smart Finish with DualZone Technology.
- •Sleek, modern stainless steel exterior with well-built construction and premium-feeling dual doors and a convenient flex door design.
- •Rapid heating and faster cooking times than many previous Ninja air fryer oven models.
- •Versatile 12-in-1 appliance: air fryer, toaster oven, bake, roast, and more, replacing multiple kitchen gadgets and saving counter space.
- •High-quality buttons and an easy-to-read LED display make control intuitive once learned.
- •Built-in food thermometer is helpful for ensuring perfect cooking results after users are familiar with it.
- •Consistent and even cooking results, including perfect toasting of bread and bagels without drying out.
- •Suitable capacity for 1-2 people or a family of four for everyday meals, accommodating a 4.5 lb chicken and 6 lbs of wings.
- •Generally easy to clean with mostly wipe-down maintenance; though crumb trays and baskets require hand washing.
- •Quiet enough operation with some minimal noise during use but not disruptive.
Cons
- •Top oven compartment is quite narrow, limited mostly to thin items like bread slices or thin pizza – restricts larger or bulkier foods.
- •Bottom oven is less effective for traditional baking or roasting compared to standard toaster ovens.
- •Cannot turn off one oven section independently; both ovens power off simultaneously and need restarting if only one is in use.
- •Door handle hits the counter when removing the crumb tray or rack, requiring careful lifting of the whole unit – inconvenient in tight kitchen spaces.
- •Crumb and food debris tend to accumulate on the door when pulling out the air fryer basket, needing frequent cleaning.
- •Air frying wetter foods such as marinated chicken thighs yields less crispy results compared to some single-function air fryers.
- •The cooling fan remains noisy and runs for an extended period after powering off, which some users may find annoying.
- •Learning curve on presets and controls because they differ from other Ninja models and require some experimentation.
- •Larger footprint than standard toaster ovens, which might require more counter space despite saving on multiple appliances.
