TLDR Review: Monoprice 108243 Speaker Volume Controller
Verdict
The Monoprice 108243 RMS 100W Speaker Volume Controller delivers reliable, smooth volume control for multiple speaker zones with solid build quality and flexible installation options. However, the noticeable rattling noise when music plays is a significant drawback you should weigh carefully, especially if you’re sensitive to such audio distractions. Installation requires attention to wiring details and appropriate wall box depth. If you want a straightforward wall-mounted volume controller with transformer isolation at a competitive price but can tolerate the occasional vibration, this is a solid choice. Otherwise, if vibration is a deal-breaker, you might want to explore other volume controllers with quieter operation or look for models with better vibration damping.
- Top pro:

Cons
- •Produces a faint but distinctly noticeable vibration or rattle during music playback, which can be distracting or annoying.
- •Installation can be fiddly, particularly managing multiple wires and connecting jumpers, which are very small and hard to handle.
- •Back components are deeper than standard old work boxes, requiring a fully recessed, deeper electrical box for proper fit.
- •Color is off-white and doesn’t perfectly match typical Decora-style bright white switches, which may affect aesthetics.
- •Some users experienced difficulty screwing in mounting screws, needing replacement screws for proper installation.
- •Tight fits in low voltage or shallow wall boxes mean care must be taken during installation to avoid issues.
