TLDR Review: Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy Booster Box
Verdict
If you’re a Final Fantasy fan or a Magic: The Gathering collector who appreciates stunning artwork and lore-themed cards, the *Magic: The Gathering - Final Fantasy Play Booster Box* is a strong choice offering an exciting pull experience and quality collectible cards. However, if you’re looking for guaranteed valuable pulls or chase specific special inserts, or if the price is steeply above retail, you might want to consider buying singles instead. This set shines most as a thematic and nostalgic collector’s piece rather than a high-return investment. For more targeted purchases, especially if you want specific cards or better value, consider exploring single card options alongside the booster box purchase to get the most bang for your buck.
- Top pro:
- Cards closely reflect Final Fantasy lore, providing a strong connection for fans of the games.
- Top con:
- Not suitable for buyers specifically seeking surge foil cards, commander inserts, or chase chocobo cards.

- •The artwork on the cards is amazing, exceptional, and perfectly executed, making it highly collectible even for non-players.
- •Good mix of rares, mythics, extended art, and tokens within each box, offering variety and an exciting card-pulling experience.
- •Highly recommended for collectors who want to enjoy an outstanding set with nostalgic value.
- •Provides cards that are valuable for new players entering competitive play, especially for commander deck builders.
- •Strong crossover appeal for Final Fantasy fans who want to explore Magic: The Gathering.
- •You can complete the collection over time by purchasing individual cards as the set matures.
- •The design and quality of the cards are generally high, with no major printing or cutting issues.
- •Considered one of the best expansions released by Wizards, with a well-regarded theme and enjoyable gameplay elements.
Cons
- •Not suitable for buyers specifically seeking surge foil cards, commander inserts, or chase chocobo cards.
- •Pulls can be unpredictable, with no guarantee of breaking even or obtaining top-value cards.
- •Recurring issue reported with receiving duplicate cards, which might be frustrating for collectors.
- •The product is only worth buying near its base price; paying significantly above (e.g., over $140) is seen as a rip-off by many.
- •More valuable as a collector's item than as an investment for resale, due to typical early value dips.
- •Experienced players may prefer buying single cards to maximize value rather than purchasing whole booster boxes.
