TLDR Review: LG OLED Evo G5 83-Inch TV
Verdict
The LG 83-Inch OLED evo AI 4K G5 Series is a premium flagship TV that delivers breathtaking picture quality with perfect blacks and vibrant colors, packed with advanced features like Dolby Atmos, AI upscaling, and a sleek OLED evo panel. It’s perfect for cinephiles, gamers, and anyone craving a modern, luxurious TV experience that doubles as a piece of art on your wall. The main drawbacks are the lack of an included stand and some reports of occasional input loss when switching modes, which is worth considering if you heavily use game consoles. If you want a TV that pairs stunning visuals with immersive sound and don't mind the additional stand purchase, this is a top-tier choice. If you want an alternative with potentially fewer input issues or included stand options, consider exploring other LG OLED models or competitors; however, nothing quite matches the brightness and clarity of this OLED evo panel in this screen size.
- Top pro:
- Picture quality is stunning with bright highlights, perfect blacks, and excellent contrast delivering an exceptional viewing experience.
- Top con:
- The TV does not come with a stand; only wall-mount brackets are included, so you must purchase a separate VESA-compatible stand or table mount.
Pros
- •Picture quality is stunning with bright highlights, perfect blacks, and excellent contrast delivering an exceptional viewing experience.
- •The OLED evo panel creates remarkable clarity even in dark scenes with minimal blooming artifacts, providing almost a pseudo-3D effect without glasses.
- •Ultra-thin design sits flush to the wall using the included wall mount, giving a sleek, modern look reminiscent of classic plasma TVs.
- •User-friendly, smooth operating system makes navigation straightforward and enjoyable.
- •Seamless compatibility with external audio equipment enhances sound quality, especially with Dolby Atmos and the Wow Orchestra feature.
- •Game Optimizer works very well to enhance gaming visuals and experience.
- •USB ports are significantly faster compared to previous LG models.
- •AI Super Upscaling boosts older and lower-quality content, adding depth and sharpness.
- •Brightness can be finely adjusted to reduce eye strain, which is a boon for families with children.
- •Lightweight compared to older, bulkier plasma TVs, making handling and mounting easier.
Cons
- •The TV does not come with a stand; only wall-mount brackets are included, so you must purchase a separate VESA-compatible stand or table mount.
- •Users have reported an intermittent input loss issue when switching between game mode and the home menu, especially noticeable with Xbox One Series X; the problem persists despite firmware updates and requires manual workarounds.
- •Brightness, while adjustable, may still cause eye strain for some viewers if not carefully calibrated.
- •At this size, recommended to use 8K HDMI cables for optimal audio-video performance, which may be an additional cost.
- •Minimal blooming is present but rarely noticeable during normal viewing; however, it's worth keeping in mind for very bright/dark transitions.
