TLDR Review: LG 45GX900A-B 45" Ultragear Monitor
Verdict
If you want a jaw-dropping, immersive gaming monitor with ultra-fast 240Hz OLED visuals and deep blacks, the LG 45GX900A-B delivers a top-tier experience that refreshes and dazzles like few others. However, be mindful of some reported early display defects and tricky laptop compatibility issues—especially with certain Acer models running Windows 11 and NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti GPUs. This monitor is best suited for serious gamers with powerful GPUs who value image quality and smoothness over absolute pixel density and occasional setup headaches. If you prioritize guaranteed plug-and-play compatibility and sharper text for productivity, you might consider slightly smaller alternatives or a traditional LCD ultrawide. ShopSavvy recommends checking your laptop/PC compatibility carefully before purchase to avoid frustration.
- Top pro:
- The 45-inch curved OLED screen offers an exceptionally immersive and visually stunning experience, with vibrant colors and deep, rich blacks thanks to OLED technology.
- Top con:
- Several users reported serious compatibility issues with certain laptops, notably the Acer Nitro 5 (Windows 11, RTX 3050 Ti), where the monitor wasn’t recognized via HDMI despite troubleshooting.
Pros
- •The 45-inch curved OLED screen offers an exceptionally immersive and visually stunning experience, with vibrant colors and deep, rich blacks thanks to OLED technology.
- •The 3440 x 1440 WQHD resolution strikes a good balance for a screen this size, delivering sharp images without the GPU burden of 4K.
- •An ultra-fast 240Hz refresh rate combined with a 0.03ms response time delivers silky smooth motion, ideal for competitive and cinematic gaming alike.
- •NVIDIA G-Sync support ensures tear-free gameplay and smooth frame syncing.
- •The pronounced curve enhances immersion significantly, especially when paired with eye and head tracking tech as a VR alternative.
- •The monitor’s heavy, stable base prevents accidental movement and the height adjustment mechanism is smooth (though it requires some finesse).
- •USB Type-C with 65W power delivery adds convenience for laptop users.
- •VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification confirms excellent HDR performance with deep contrast.
- •Design and color aesthetics of the monitor receive positive remarks, blending performance with elegance.
Cons
- •Several users reported serious compatibility issues with certain laptops, notably the Acer Nitro 5 (Windows 11, RTX 3050 Ti), where the monitor wasn’t recognized via HDMI despite troubleshooting.
- •A few units developed display problems such as dead pixels or vertical lines, which significantly degrade image quality.
- •OLED technology sometimes results in slightly less sharp text compared to traditional LCDs, although this is usually not an issue during gaming.
- •The intense curve can feel overwhelming at first and may not suit everyone’s preference.
- •Bigger screen size at native 3440x1440 resolution pushes the limits of sharpness and DPI, which can make text and UI elements feel less crisp than smaller QHD displays.
- •Consumes about 30% more GPU power than a 32-inch monitor at similar resolution, so expect higher graphics requirements.
- •LG customer support was responsive but unable to resolve some hardware compatibility or panel issues.
- •Height locking on the stand can be a bit fiddly, requiring readjustments to get it exactly right.
