TLDR Review: Lenovo ThinkPad X9 Aura Edition
Verdict
The Lenovo ThinkPad X9 14 Aura Edition is a sleek, premium ultraportable that excels in display quality, build, and security features, making it a great pick for business professionals who value design and productivity over raw power or extensive upgrade options. However, if you demand a powerhouse for heavy multitasking, gaming, or extended battery life, you might want to explore AMD Ryzen or Apple M-series based alternatives. For a balanced blend of portability, security, and vivid OLED visuals, this is a strong contender.
- Top pro:
- Stunning 14” 2.8K OLED touchscreen with HDR 600, anti-reflection/anti-smudge coatings, and vibrant colors perfect for color-critical and multimedia work.
- Top con:
- Performance is solid but falls short against AMD Ryzen and Apple M-series competitors, especially in heavy multitasking and demanding workloads.

- •Battery supports fast charging, reaching up to 80% in 1 hour, which is handy for quick top-ups during a busy day.
- •Lightweight and portable at around 2.8 lbs, making it convenient for on-the-go professionals who want power and style.
Cons
- •Performance is solid but falls short against AMD Ryzen and Apple M-series competitors, especially in heavy multitasking and demanding workloads.
- •Battery life is average at best, typically around 6 to 12 hours depending on use, trailing behind some ultraportables and arm-based rivals with longer runtimes.
- •Lack of USB-A ports means you’ll likely need a docking station or adapters to connect legacy peripherals.
- •The absence of the traditional ThinkPad TrackPoint might disappoint longtime ThinkPad fans who rely on it for precise cursor control.
- •Keyboard layout removes some dedicated keys (like Page Up, Page Down, Delete), which could hinder workflow productivity for power users.
- •Integrated Intel Arc 140V graphics are adequate for casual use and video streaming, but not designed for heavy gaming or graphics-intensive tasks.
- •Limited upgradeability with RAM soldered on and only SSD and battery user-accessible.
- •Webcam is excellent but heavy users of enterprise security features might find the lack of Intel vPro and cellular options limiting.
- •Cooling is efficient but can produce noticeable fan noise under heavy load.
- •Display flicker and haptic touchpad feedback might take some getting used to for sensitive users or those expecting classic ThinkPad input feel.
