TLDR Review: LEGO Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer 75394
Verdict
The LEGO Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer (75394) nails the balance between display-worthy detail and engaging play features in a manageable size. Its sturdy build, stunning interior, and legendary minifigure lineup — especially the 25th Anniversary Cal Kestis — make it a top-tier Star Wars set for enthusiasts aged 10 and up. However, the premium price and some missing minifigure accessories may give budget shoppers pause. If you want a huge, iconic starship that’s easier to handle and packed with clever features, this set fits perfectly, but if you’re after the absolute largest Ship Destroyer with more mini-figures, you might want to explore the extra-large 4,700-piece versions elsewhere.
- Top pro:
- The build is exceptionally sturdy and stable, far better than previous Imperial Star Destroyer sets.
- Top con:
- The price is on the high side, especially when considered per piece and per minifigure.
Pros

- •Assembly is easy, straightforward, and fun, with mirror-image halves keeping the build engaging without being repetitive.
- •The set features a highly detailed and extensive interior including the bridge, command room, break room, armory, and control panels — arguably the best interior space in any LEGO Star Wars set.
- •Play features shine with two spring-loaded shooters, a hidden foldout carry handle, lift-off top panel, and foldout side panels for easy access.
- •Comes with 7 minifigures including Darth Vader, Commander Praji, and a special 25th Anniversary Cal Kestis figure, fulfilling fan desires for unique characters.
- •Visually, it’s impressive from practically every angle, with a clean design that looks better in person than in photos.
- •The smaller scale makes it suitable for display in limited spaces while still providing excellent playability.
- •The set evokes strong nostalgia for fans of the original trilogy and Star Wars enthusiasts alike.
- •Clear instructions and a reasonable piece count (1,555 pieces) provide an enjoyable, manageable building experience.
- •Durable construction and great play features make it a worthwhile investment for collectors and kids ages 10 and up.
Cons
- •The price is on the high side, especially when considered per piece and per minifigure.
- •Some minifigure accessories are missing, notably Cal Kestis’s poncho and BD-1 companion, which disappointed a few fans.
- •A few reviewers mentioned the Stormtrooper minifigure design is less impressive compared to older versions.
- •While the set offers detailed interior and play features, it includes fewer mini-figures than some other large LEGO Star Wars sets.
- •Due to its smaller scale compared to some other Star Destroyers, collectors wanting the largest display piece may want to look elsewhere.
- •Given its price, it’s suggested to wait for a 20% or greater price drop before purchasing if budget-conscious.
