TLDR Review: Knight Rider Complete Series Blu-ray
Verdict
If you’re craving a nostalgic, visually upgraded Knight Rider experience with neat extras and solid sound, this complete series Blu-ray set is a strong choice and the best 4K presentation currently available in the U.S. market. However, if you already own the German Turbine edition or prioritize original music and stereo audio (especially for season 4), you might want to stick with that superior release instead. For everyone else, this set delivers iconic thrills, classic charm, and a fresh presentation that’s tough to beat.
- Top pro:
- The set offers a highly enjoyable and classic viewing experience with strong nostalgic appeal, especially for longtime fans of the show.
- Top con:
- Compression artifacts and grain clumping appear on some discs due to up to 4.5 hours of content per disc, which occasionally impacts fine image detail.
Pros
- •The set offers a highly enjoyable and classic viewing experience with strong nostalgic appeal, especially for longtime fans of the show.
- •David Hasselhoff’s presence adds a memorable charm that keeps the series entertaining.
- •Picture quality is significantly enhanced with 4K UHD and HDR10, delivering vibrant colors, deep blacks, and natural skin tones far better than the original broadcasts.
- •Includes a new one-hour retrospective documentary along with special features such as commentaries and behind-the-scenes content.
- •The series remains one of the best representations of ‘80s TV, providing a refreshing alternative to modern content.
- •This edition is a notable upgrade over previous budget Blu-ray releases.
- •The audio is consistent and lossless in mono, maintaining clear sound across seasons.
- •The set embodies the iconic heroic and thrilling themes of Knight Rider, including the standout presence of KITT, the advanced four-wheeled companion.
Cons
- •Compression artifacts and grain clumping appear on some discs due to up to 4.5 hours of content per disc, which occasionally impacts fine image detail.
- •Season 4 audio is presented in lossless mono rather than original stereo, which some fans may find disappointing.
- •Several original songs are missing throughout the series because of music rights issues.
- •Some 2-hour event episodes appear in syndicated 2-part versions instead of the original full-length broadcasts, reducing authenticity for purists.
- •Although a big leap over older sets, this release falls short of the German Turbine Blu-ray editions that offer original uncut episodes, restored music, and proper stereo sound for season 4.
- •Not the best choice if you already own the Turbine edition, as that offers superior restoration and audio quality.
