Verdict
The Klein Tools VDV500-820 Cable Tracer performs well for basic wire tracing needs and offers significant cost savings compared to more expensive brands. However, reliability issues, particularly with longer CAT5 and CAT6 cables, suggest it may not be suitable for professional use. For those new to cable tracing technology, the lack of intuitive operation and detailed instructions could prove frustrating. If you're seeking a professional-grade tool with reliable performance across a broad range of applications, consider alternative options.
