TLDR Review: HP 962 Ink Cartridges (3-pack)
Verdict
If you’re after reliable, vibrant, and hassle-free color printing for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 or 9020, the HP 962 (3-pack) Cyan-Magenta-Yellow Original Ink Cartridges deliver consistent quality and easy installation that just works. However, be prepared to pay a premium for genuine HP brand peace of mind, and watch out for HP’s InstantInk subscription quirks if that’s part of your setup — it’s not for everyone. For those on a tighter budget or who dislike subscription models, buying individual cartridges as needed may be smarter, or even considering alternative printers with different ink ecosystems might be worth exploring.
- Top pro:
- High quality ink that performs exactly as advertised, delivering vibrant colors and sharp text.
- Top con:

Cons
- •The price is on the steep side, with many users calling it “too expensive” or “a little pricey.”
- •The yield per cartridge, up to 700 pages, is decent but considered average; some expect more given the cost.
- •HP’s InstantInk subscription system tied to these cartridges can be frustrating—requires always-on internet and may lock printing if connectivity drops, even with ink in the printer.
- •Printer and cartridge setup can be overly complicated, sometimes causing connectivity or communication issues between printer and computer.
- •HP requires all color cartridges to be installed and functional, even if printing black and white, disallowing use of recycled or third-party cartridges.
- •The subscription ink programs feel restrictive and “rip-off” to some users who prefer to buy cartridges individually.
- •Customer support often feels chatbot-heavy and unhelpful, which can be annoying when dealing with issues.
- •Some users suggest considering replacing older printers instead of purchasing more expensive cartridges, raising concerns about wastefulness.
