TLDR Review: Hoover PowerDash Pet Cleaner
Verdict
The **Hoover PowerDash Pet Compact Carpet Cleaner** is a solid choice if you're after an affordable, compact machine primarily for light cleaning, fresh pet stains, and apartment-sized areas with low-pile carpets. It's easy to handle and does a surprisingly good job on newer messes while offering handy features like a drying mode and decent suction for its class. However, if you need something for deep cleaning, heavy pet messes, or thick carpets — or if you want attachments for stairs and upholstery — you might want to look elsewhere for greater power and versatility. For a bigger, more thorough clean with easier maintenance, consider models with larger tanks and attachments designed for multi-surface use.
- Top pro:
- Effectively cleans carpets, especially fresh spills, pet stains, and dirt, making rugs look refreshed and smelling better.
- Top con:
- Cleaning performance is inconsistent—works well on new messes but struggles with deep or old stains and thicker carpets.
Pros
- •Effectively cleans carpets, especially fresh spills, pet stains, and dirt, making rugs look refreshed and smelling better.
- •Suitable for apartments and small spaces due to its compact, lightweight design.
- •Powerful suction and spinning brushes pick up more dirt and pet hair than comparable brands, often leaving visible dirty water behind.
- •Includes a drying feature that speeds up carpet drying by extracting moisture without oversaturating.
- •Continues vacuuming and brush spinning even after cleaning solution runs out, allowing uninterrupted cleaning.
- •Offers good value for the price compared to rental machines and larger models.
- •Comes with a sample pet-specific carpet shampoo with a pleasant scent.
- •Reliable with no major issues like burning or leaking under heavy use.
- •Small, user-friendly, and easy to maneuver, especially compared to bulkier, more expensive carpet cleaners.
Cons
- •Cleaning performance is inconsistent—works well on new messes but struggles with deep or old stains and thicker carpets.
- •Suction and solution release can be weak, sometimes leaving carpets damp and requiring additional fans to speed drying.
- •Machine is prone to leaking, especially around deteriorating seals and O-rings.
- •Maintenance is tedious; cleaning the device requires disassembly with a screwdriver, and the brush bristles are hard to clean.
- •Water and solution tanks are relatively small, necessitating frequent emptying and refills during larger cleaning tasks.
- •No attachments or hose for stairs, upholstery, cars, or couches, limiting versatility.
- •Build quality feels flimsy and cheap to some users, raising concerns about long-term durability.
- •Not recommended for heavy-duty or large area cleaning; best for spot cleaning or light upkeep on low-pile carpets.
- •Internal tank access is limited, making thorough cleaning of the machine tricky.
- •Prolonged moisture retention can cause unpleasant odors or mold, especially on thicker carpets or heavier use without quick drying.
